For me, this game was a fascinating exploration of what a GM-less game can look like, and the interesting dimensions the story can take when each player is equally influencing the direction of the world. Coming from more of a DnD background, I'd gotten quite used to games with more tangible 'tracks' and moving past issues with combat or other flashy forms of resolution.

"This Vineyard Will Be Our Salvation" though was a really interesting foray into what a game can be if world-building becomes an OBJECTIVE rather than a means to blowing shit up and stabbing goblins.

The pieces are there, but the players have SO much freedom to collaboratively decide on the parameters of the world. Are there inter-species or political tensions between the different groups? Does the island really exist and is it all it's cracked up to be? How do the characters feel about their position in life?

The best thing for me about this is that - because there is no overarching plot or GM - you may never receive a firm canonical 'answer' to many of these questions - only the perspectives of the characters that emerge when they answer the questions. While some players who enjoy more firm answers might find this a bit unusual, I thought it fit really well with having this be a narrative about a few specific ducks/geese/owls/mongoose/whatever, and allowed us (on my playthrough) to write a more intimate story.

Not a big sweeping epic, but it doesn't attempt to be! It's a quirky, personal framework ripe with allegorical opportunity, and a really easy game to pickup and go without much prep. HIGHLY recommend you try this!!
